Radiological assessment of osteo-arthrosis.

چکیده
In a previous study (Kellgren and Bier, 1956), three sets of x rays of the hands were used to assess interand intra-observer differences in interpreting changes of rheumatoid arthritis. Wide disagreement between observers was found, and it was concluded that, to ensure maximum uniformity in grading x rays in field surveys and therapeutic trials, all readings should be made by the same observer, preferably at a single session. The advisability of having a set of standard reference films was also considered.

Radiological assessment of rheumatoid arthritis.
a study was made of interand intra-observer differences in grading hand films for rheumatoid arthritis during the course of therapeutic trials and field surveys. This study indicated that standards used so far in grading x-ray changes for rheumatoid arthritis in field surveys in Leigh and South Wales did not differ greatly from the mean values given by physicians and radiologists in Britain. Be...
متن کاملOsteo-arthrosis and disk degeneration in an urban population.
This study of osteo-arthrosis, or degenerative joint disease, is based on the same survey material as the corresponding paper on rheumatoid arthritis (Kellgren and Lawrence, 1956). A one-in-ten random sample of the population aged 55-64 years in the Lancashire town of Leigh was studied clinically, radiologically, and serologically for all forms of arthritis. After a detailed clinical examinatio...

The occurrence of osteo-arthrosis in multiple joints was noted by Adams (1857). Cecil and Archer (1926) observed that the condition was more often polyarticular than monarticular in patients attending their rheumatism clinic, occurred mainly in middle-aged females, and was usually associated with Heberden's nodes; they labelled the condition menopausal arthritis. Stecher (1941, 1955) investigat...
متن کاملIntra-articular hydrocortisone in osteo-arthrosis.
There is no doubt about the value of intraarticular hydrocortisone in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Controversy has arisen however about its value in the treatment of osteo-arthrosis. Hollander, who introduced this useful form of therapy, has remained an advocate of its use in both conditions (Hollander, 1966). Because of the lack of distinction between the response in patients with rh...
متن کاملDegenerative joint disease in a Jamaican rural population.
Although degenerative joint disease is known to be very frequent in temperate climates and is responsible for a large proportion of the rheumatic complaints in old people, little information is available on its frequency in tropical and sub-tropical populations. Geographical studies undertaken in Northern Europe and America have indicated regional difference, the radiological changes of osteo-a...
